The S.A.G.E. Center, located at 3138 Fifth Avenue (between Spruce & Redwood) opened in 1999 and provided members and guests with a place to meet, socialize and participate in various activities. It also served as a drop-in center for visitors and for senior members of the community who were looking for available resources. Becuae of the economic downturn, the S.A.G.E. Center closed in June, 2009.
The S.A.G.E. Center was funded in part by the Robert Wood Johnson Local Initiate Partners as a collaborating partner in the Aging as Ourselves project. Past grants included funding from the San Diego LGBT Pride Fund managed by the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation, the Alliance Healthcare Foundation and the San Diego Foundation.
